Belem Ríos Ortiz de Montellano is from Puebla and has service in her blood, as she is part of the fifth generation of hotel and restaurant owners. The first were her great-great grandfather, Don Andrés Bello Prada, and her great-grandfather, Don Agustín del Puerto Barba, who came from Spain at the beginning of the 20th century. She studied hotel management at the University of the Americas, Puebla, where she graduated with honors. In addition to Spanish, she speaks English and French. She has published “From the Inn to the Hotel in Puebla,” a monograph about the history of lodging in Puebla. In 2004, Belem and her husband, Demetrio Soto del Castillo, bought the old home in the historical downtown area of Cholula that during the first half of the 20th century was the luxurious residence of the owners of Santa Catarina Martyr Hacienda, where the campus of University of the Americas is now located. For two years, Belem carefully supervised the laborious restoration of the home and in 2006, opened “Estrella de Belem” Bed & Breakfast and Spa, where guests receive her personal attention. |
